How To Track Yield, Species By Species
A complete walkthrough of the Yield page — how yield types adjust to each species, logging a new entry, the dedicated Shift field for milk, editing a record, and reading Today's Totals and Current Stock.
Yield Types Adjust Themselves To Each Species
Open Yield and pick a species — the list of yield types you can log changes automatically to match it. Manure and Meat are available for every species, Milk only appears for species actually capable of milking, and Eggs only appears for genuinely egg-producing species — the same logic the Animals page already uses to decide whether a species is a milk producer or an egg producer, so the two pages never disagree with each other. Only species with at least one animal already assigned to your farm show up in the dropdown at all, so you're never logging yield for livestock you don't actually have.
Log Production In Seconds
Click Add Yield to open a quick popup right on the page — no separate screen to load. Choose the Species, then the Yield Type from the list that species actually supports, enter the Quantity and Unit, pick the Date, and add an optional note. This is a production log, not a sale — it records what your farm produced, and stays completely separate from Sales, where you record what you've sold from that stock.
Milk Gets Its Own Shift Field
Choose Milk as the yield type and a Shift field appears — Morning or Evening — so two milkings on the same day are tracked as the separate records they actually are, instead of quietly overwriting each other or getting added together. Pick any other yield type and the Shift field simply isn't part of the form, keeping the entry quick for everything that doesn't need it.
Fix A Record Without Reopening Everything
Click Edit on any row to correct a mistake. Species and Yield Type are locked once a record is saved — shown as plain badges rather than editable fields — so a correction never accidentally turns a Milk entry into a Meat one. Quantity, Unit, Date, and Notes stay fully editable, which covers the vast majority of real corrections: a typo'd number, the wrong day, or a note you forgot to add the first time.
Today's Totals, Broken Down By Species
Today's Totals cards add up everything logged so far today, and never merge across species — Cattle Meat and Goat Meat stay two separate cards, not one blended "Meat" number, because that's rarely what a real farm wants to see. At a glance you know exactly what came in today, species by species and type by type, without opening the full history table.
Current Stock — What You Have On Hand Right Now
Current Stock totals every yield record you've ever logged for each species and type, giving you a running production figure to work from. It's a gross number — the total your farm has produced — not automatically netted against what you've sold, since Sales tracks products at the species level rather than tying every sale back to a single yield record. Use it alongside Sales to judge what's actually still on hand.
